Zinc Silicate Crystalline Glaze Pottery

A chronicle of my recent progress and a way for me to keep it straight in my head!

Glenn Woods of Pottery Boys Clay Studios gave this demonstration of how to make an alligator shin textured pot recent in their studio.

Throw a rough form.

Shape the foot and lip. Leave the body thicker in the center.

Smooth the outside of the pot.

Apply sodium silicate with a fan brush and dry with a blow drier.

Apply colored slip to the smooth surface.

Apply an even coat. Continue to try and heal breaks.

In this case he used a black material.

Dry the surface with a blow drier.

Apply a second coat and dry.

Lubricate the inside with water and push out with a rib.

Rib it out to the desired shape and admire it!

Do a final shaping of the top lip.
